We have the capability to analyze building electrical systems and to determine the optimal placement of PV power conditioning equipment. Often this step in the design process involves owner consultation and may also involve consultation with the utility and the building department. We frequently find ourselves teaching the building officials what to look for in the design and the installation.

When the system is to be installed on a “typical” roof, where it is known that the roof itself is structurally sound, we routinely perform the calculations needed to certify that a system meets dead load and wind load requirements. For larger roofs, we recognize our limitations and bring in a structural engineer to confirm all loading requirements.
